About Us
Maryland Solar Grazing Solutions was founded in 2023 by former owner Gary Brooks and is now owned and operated by Joseph and Sara Kidd, who took over in 2025. ​
Sara is an ASGA Certified solar grazer and has an extensive background in livestock management, she is finishing her PhD in Agriculture and Extension Education at North Carolina State University. She is looking forward to incorporating educational opportunities and workforce development innovations into the business. Lambing is her absolute favorite thing about farming and she had a great time welcoming over 80 lambs to the farm this spring.
Joseph is a US Marine Corps veteran who enjoys shepherding and brings a wide range of mechanical and logistical skills to the operation. He has a degree in sustainable agriculture and completed the Lead Shepherd program at NC State University. He is also a really good sheep whisperer, and hopes to share his love of this work with other veteran farmers!
Mission
At Maryland Solar Grazing Solutions LLC, our mission is to produce sustainable and high-quality lamb while enhancing the environment through solar grazing. We are committed to promoting agricultural innovation and reducing the environmental impact of traditional solar installations, creating a symbiotic relationship between solar power generation and sheep grazing. We aim to keep the “farm” in solar farms” and share our work through education and workforce development programs.
Vision
To develop a new generation of land stewardship in Maryland by integrating sustainable sheep grazing with solar power production—creating a future where agriculture, clean energy, and ecological health work in harmony to restore the land, reduce emissions, and nourish communities.
